TROLLHUNTER
The best “found footage” film ever! If you’d like a good documentary-style suspense films you should watch this.
Film Plot
The government says there’s nothing to worry about – it’s just a problem with bears making trouble in the mountains and forests of Norway. But local hunters don’t believe it – and neither do a trio of college students who want to find out the truth. Armed with a video camera, they trail a mysterious “poacher,” who wants nothing to do with them. However, their persistence lands them straight in the path of the objects of his pursuits: trolls. They soon find themselves documenting every move of this grizzled, unlikely hero – the trollhunter – risking their lives to uncover the secrets of creatures only thought to exist in fairy tales.
My Take
The animation was pretty good, the most fake-looking thing was the dead bears (but they were not bad). This film does a good job of incorporating fairy tales while not relying on them too much; it really makes you picture what people were imagining a thousand years ago when they talked about trolls. Found footage films when done well are great, because it is very easy to escape into them. You get a lot of troll facts during the film, which I think is cool. The only part that I didn’t think really made sense is that when they are talking to a veterinarian about trolls exploding and turning into stone, she says that trolls can’t convert Vitamin D from the sun into calcium, so their stomachs expand forcing their intestines and veins to fill with gasses. But with the older ones their bones expand and there is an instant calcification process of their whole bodies. These seem contradictory. But aside from that it’s all good.
Summary
Synopsis: A few students from Volda College in Norway trail a guy who turns out to be a government employee who hunts trolls.

Actually no, Blair Witch sucked. But it is the most popular, at least here in the states.
Yea, I really dug this one. The bone thing doesn’t seem too contradictory, since their older bodies could be doing something crazy to them. Let me assure you, though, I am no troll biologist. But if I was, I couldn’t tell you, anyways.
Agreed Blair Witch was way over-hyped and not really that good. This however used lost footage as a style of story telling rather than a pretence and in doing so is much more effective ! The casting is great, the only character that is likeable is the Hunter himself. Much of the suspense is about what is not seen, or the expectation of what may happen.
Even my partner who hates subtitled films loved it.
I dread the Hollywood remake, just hope it is given to a sensitive director.
