Don’t Trust the Nine-Year-Old

Air Date:  August 19, 2017

Description:  Don’t believe a child when they give you driving directions from memory.

TRANSCRIPT:
So, before my mom got remarried to Ann, Ann would get up early in the morning, and I was also a morning person at that time, and we would have breakfast together.  Well, she was visiting us in Phoenix and she decided she would do something special for her fiancé’s youngest son and take me to IHOP. The problem was, this is before Google Maps, and we didn’t even have a computer in the house with the internet. Ann lived in Seattle and this was her first time visiting Phoenix.  Everybody else was asleep, so without waking anybody, she asks me (the nine-year-old boy) “Hey, do you know how to get to IHOP?”  Of course I didn’t, and of course I said I did.  Forty-five minutes later we’re at a Denny’s in Mesa.  Moral of the story is: don’t let the nine-year-old be the one playing navigator in a new town for ya.
